Frank's Homeopathic Advice for Hayfever

Homeopathy can be quite effective in combating hayfever and its symptoms, this hayfever season is going to be particularly intense.

I have a feeling that this cold spring with its dry atmosphere is a harbinger of a very intense hayfever season when the weather warms up. Tree pollens are already causing a problem as is the volcanic dust from Iceland.

I must also stress that Homeopathy is Complementary not Alternative,so you can still use all your conventional hayfever treatments.

The principle behind basic homeopathy is 'like cures like' so our main remedy for hayfever is the stuff that causes the problem in the first place and that is Pollen. So all hayfever sufferers should take Mixed Pollens 30C which is a mixture of grass, tree, flower and other pollens, such as Oil Seed Rape, potentised hompeopathically.

This is thought to condition the patient so that the threshold at which symptoms appear is raised, and also symptoms are lessened aswell.

One dose a day before the season starts then up the dose to two or three a day as symptoms appear.

Homeopathy can be used with the Mixed Pollen remedy to alleviate symptoms.

  • Euphrasia, helps itchy burning eyes and a bland runny nose.
  • Allium Cepa, helps runny eyes and a sore burning nose.
  • Arsen Alb, helps both itchy and sore eyes and nose,
  • Gelsemium, helps heavy tired eys and a dry cough with flu'like symptoms
  • Nat Mur, much sneezing and cold symptoms, runny eyes and nose

All these remedies should be taken as required while symptoms are present
The main thing to remember is to look at your worst symptom and find a remedy that fits. Symptoms can include an itchy mouth and throat and also nosebleeds.

As I said before all these remedies can be used with conventional medicines and are safe with all prescribed medicines. Some people get the best relief by using both!
Other things you can do is to stay indoors as much as possible, shower and wash your hair after being outside and wear wrap around sunglasses.

Lastly your Murrays Pharmacist can give you good advice as always.
