Sunburn is an inflammation of the skin, initially the skin goes red and hot and in severe cases starts to blister and weep (3rd degree burns). Treatment is geared towards reducing inflammation and relief of pain and redness.
I think everyone at sometime has got sunburnt to some extent, with soreness and redness and eventual peeling of the skin.
There are various ways of treating sunburn:
- Cold compresses and a cool bath can ease pain and soreness
- Soothing creams such as Aqueous Calamine Cream. Ask your Murray's Pharmacist for the best option, sometimes if inflammation is bad ,amild steroid cream can help.
- Take Paracetamol or similar painkiller to help pain
Be careful that sunstroke does not develop (high temperature and headache),so plenty of soft drinks(alcohol makes things worse!)
Ask your Murray's Pharmacist for the best option and don't hesitate to call the doctor or get some sort of medical help with severe Sunburn.
I also use Complementary Therapy to help Sunburn:
- Aloe Vera Gel to cool and ease burning
- Calendula Cream or Gel to help the healing process ( do not use on broken skin)
- Homeopathic Remedies such as
- Cantharis 30C pillules can help burning feelings
- Belladonna 30C pillules for hot, red, burning skin with headache
- Aconite 30C pillules for burning anfd chills
- Urtica 30C pillules for burning and itching especially prickly heat
To help cut down the harmful effects of the sun a preparation called Sol 30C pillules may help.
This is especially useful abroad where the sun is very strong.
Finally remember SLIP, SLAP, SLOP
- Slip on some baggy loose clothes
- Slap on a floppy hat
- Slop on the sun cream
