Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) - also called 'The Morning After Pill'
Just walk into any Murrays branch and our friendly staff will help and advise you.
If you’ve had sex without using contraception, or you think that the contraception you did use might have failed, then you may decide you want to use EHC as an emergency measure. EHC must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Otherwise you should visit a contraceptive, sexual health or GUM clinic, or your GP surgery as soon as possible. They may be able to offer another form of emergency contraception.
Emergency Hormonal Contraception contains levonorgestrel and is taken as a single pill. It is available from Murrays Pharmacies with or without a doctor’s prescription. You can obtain EHC from your local Murrays Pharmacy without a prescription in one of two ways. Firstly, it is available to purchase over-the-counter (for those aged 16 years and above). Alternatively, many of our Pharmacists are accredited to provide emergency hormonal contraception free of charge as part of a local NHS service. Before you can be supplied with EHC, you will need to have a brief consultation with the Pharmacist, who will ensure that it is suitable for you.
