JN Murray Ltd or as it is affectionately known Murrays was established in the early 1930's in Barrow-in-Furness by Norman Murray. The shop on Settle Street was the first Murrays Pharmacy where Norman lived with his wife Florence who ran the Post Office on Bowness Road.
Florence and Norman had two children, Donald and Gavine. Donald qualified as a Pharmacist and worked with his father to grow Murrays. Gavine opened and ran the Murrays Gift Shop on Dalton Road. After Norman's death, Donald with his wife Lynda, grew the business further. Donald and Lynda had a daughter Helen who currently works as a director of the business with her husband Jonathan Hartley.
Jonathan and Helen appointed John Murtagh as Pharmacy Superintendant of Murrays and the three working Directors continue to keep Murrays looking for new opportunities, with the guiding hand of Lynda Murray in the background.
